How it works
- Take-home pay = salary − monthly income tax at the current slabs, for both salaries.
- Extra take-home = new take-home − any extra costs of the new job − current take-home.
- Take-home needed to keep up = current take-home × (1 + inflation).
- Raise after inflation = new take-home ÷ take-home needed − 1. Below zero means you can buy less than before.
Frequently asked questions
How much raise do I need to beat inflation?
More than inflation after tax. With inflation at 10.3%, a Rs 100,000 salary needs about Rs 111,470 (a 11.5% raise) just to buy what it buys today, because part of every raise goes in tax. The table on this page shows the figure for other salaries.
Why is my raise smaller after tax?
Pakistan’s salary tax is progressive: each extra rupee is taxed at your top slab rate, which is higher than your average rate. A 10% raise on Rs 150,000 a month raises take-home pay by less than 10%. Below Rs 50,000 a month no tax is due, so the raise is the same after tax.
How do I compare two job offers?
Enter your current salary first, then each offer in turn as the new salary, with the extra commute or other costs that job brings. The result with the higher “raise after inflation” leaves you better off. Remember benefits this does not count: provident fund, medical cover, bonus and leave.
Which inflation figure is used?
By default the latest year-on-year national CPI from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (10.26% for September 2026). You can type your own figure, for example the State Bank’s forecast for the year ahead, or your own household’s inflation.
Does this include bonuses or allowances?
It uses the monthly taxable salary you enter. Add regular taxable allowances to both salaries. Tax-exempt items such as some medical allowances can be left out.
