How it is calculated
- For a Gregorian date, the Hijri date is read from the Umm al-Qura calendar built into your browser.
- For a Hijri date, we find the Gregorian date of the 1st of that Hijri month and add the remaining days.
- Finally, the one-day moon-sighting adjustment you choose for Pakistan is applied.
Example: Ramadan 1448

| If Pakistan is one day behind | Tuesday, 9 February 2027 |

Frequently asked questions
Which Hijri calendar does this converter use?
The Umm al-Qura calendar, Saudi Arabia’s official calendar, as built into modern browsers. It is calculated from astronomy in advance, so it is the standard reference for Hijri dates, but it does not depend on anyone actually seeing the moon.
Why can the date in Pakistan be a day different?
In Pakistan a new Islamic month starts only when the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announces that the crescent has been seen on the evening of the 29th. If it is not seen, the month runs to 30 days. So Ramadan, Eid and Muharram in Pakistan often begin one day after Saudi Arabia. Use the adjustment to match the committee’s announcement.
When is Ramadan 1448?
In the Umm al-Qura calendar, 1 Ramadan 1448 AH is Monday, 8 February 2027. If Pakistan begins a day later, the first fast would be on Tuesday, 9 February 2027. The final date depends on moon sighting.
How many days are in a Hijri month and year?
Each Hijri month has 29 or 30 days, depending on when the new moon is seen. A Hijri year has 12 months and 354 or 355 days, about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year, which is why Ramadan moves earlier every year.
Which dates can I convert?
Gregorian years 1938 to 2076 (Hijri 1357 to 1499 AH), the period covered by the official Umm al-Qura tables.
