How this check works

The removal of the PTV fee and electricity duty from bills was announced in June and July 2025, so neither is added automatically. If your bill still shows them, enter them above. Every line of the bill is explained in our guide how to read your electricity bill.

A worked example

An unprotected LESCO consumer with a 2 kW load, a filer, used 300 units this month. July’s units were 280, so the bill’s fuel adjustment is 280 × Rs 2.0581 = Rs 576. The company sent a bill of Rs 15,000.

Energy charges (300 × Rs 33.1)Rs 9,930
Fixed charges (Rs 350 × 2 kW)Rs 700
Fuel price adjustmentRs 576
GST (18%)Rs 2,017
Expected billRs 13,223
DifferenceRs 1,777 more (13.4%)

That is well beyond the tolerance of Rs 264, so the first thing to do is compare your meter’s reading today with the present reading on the bill. If the meter shows less, photograph it and complain to the company.

Frequently asked questions

How do I read the units on my bill?

Look for the reading box near the top of the bill: units = present reading − previous reading (times the multiplying factor, which is 1 for almost all homes). Then read your own meter today. If the bill’s present reading is higher than your meter shows now, the reading was estimated or wrong, and that alone explains most inflated bills.

Which amount should I enter as the bill?

Enter the current month’s bill, not “payable within due date”, which adds any arrears, and not “payable after due date”, which also adds the late payment surcharge. If the only total you can see includes arrears, subtract the arrears line first.

Why can’t I just multiply the fuel adjustment rate by my units?

Because NEPRA charges it on an earlier month’s units. For example, the Rs 2.0581 per unit fuel charge adjustment for July 2026 was added to September 2026 bills, on the units billed in July. That is why this checker asks for the rupee amount printed on the bill. Lifeline consumers do not pay FPA or quarterly adjustments.

When is income tax added to an electricity bill?

Under section 235 of the Income Tax Ordinance, a domestic consumer whose monthly bill (including sales tax and other charges) is Rs 25,000 or more pays 7.5% advance tax, unless their name is on FBR’s Active Taxpayers List. If you are a filer and still see it, give your company your CNIC so it can update your status.

How do I complain about a wrong electricity bill?

Go to your company’s customer services centre (or its helpline or app) with the bill’s 14-digit reference number and a dated photo of your meter, and ask for a bill correction. If the company does not fix it, register a complaint with NEPRA, the regulator, on its online complaint system at nepra.org.pk or the NEPRA Asaan Approach app, and keep the tracking number.
