How it is worked out
- Gold value = 10 × 431,536 = Rs 4,315,360
- Nisab (52.5 tola silver) = 52.5 × 6,086 = Rs 319,515
- Zakat at 2.5% = 2.5% × 4,315,360 = Rs 107,884
What this means for you
10 tola is above the gold nisab of 7.5 tola, so zakat is due on it once a lunar year has passed, whether or not you own anything else. Add your cash, savings and other assets in the calculator to get your full zakat.
The Sarafa rate is for pure 24K gold. Most jewellery is 22K or 21K, and zakat is on the gold it contains: on 10 tola of 22K it is Rs 98,894 and on 21K Rs 94,399. Stones and making charges are not counted. In the Hanafi school, followed by most Pakistanis, jewellery you wear is also zakatable.
Use the rate on the day you pay: gold prices change every working day, and every Rs 1,000 change in the tola rate changes this zakat by Rs 250. If you owe a debt that is due now, deduct it before working out zakat.
