How it is worked out
- Annual salary: Rs 50,000 × 12 = Rs 600,000
- Income up to Rs 600,000 a year is not taxed, so the tax is Rs 0
- Monthly take-home: (Rs 600,000 − Rs 0) ÷ 12 = Rs 50,000
- Monthly tax: Rs 0 ÷ 12 = Rs 0
What this means for you
Tax is worked out on the year’s salary: Rs 600,000 a year is at the tax-free limit, so nothing is deducted. Above it, 1% applies only to the amount over the limit, so a raise costs very little: at Rs 60,000 a month the tax would be Rs 100 a month.
As in 2025-26, the first Rs 600,000 a year is tax-free: the 2026-27 budget did not change the limit. Your employer still reports your salary to FBR, and if you have other income such as rent or a business, your total income decides whether tax is due.
